Superman Returns in 3-D

Brandon Routh as Superman

Warner Bros. Pictures announced Thursday that the Man of Steel will be coming to movie viewers in a whole new dimension: 3-D. Superman Returns opens June 30 in wide release, the film will also be seen on IMAX, with 20 minutes of footage converted into 3-D.

"The test scenes that have been converted into IMAX 3-D look, sound and feel absolutely amazing," according to Superman Returns director Bryan Singer. "The magic of IMAX 3-D will envelop audiences in the story, enabling them to feel the emotion, drama and suspense in a completely new and unique way."

Superman Returns marks the first live-action Hollywood feature to be shown in 3-D on IMAX screens.

Last year George Lucas announced plans to remaster the Star Wars saga and release the films in 3-D, with the first having a targeted release date of 2007, to mark the 30th anniversary of Star Wars.
